This attractive set of circa 1930s BurrKey Bilt woods is loaded with exceptionally colorful celluloid inserts, backweights, and circular plugs.  Finding one club is good, but finding a matching set, is way better.

This matching driver, brassie, and spoon remains in outstanding condition. The shafts are original and include their  "Bristol Seamed Steel Golf Shaft" labels.  These tubular steel shafts were constructed with welded (then ground smooth) seams up their side. The shafts were then coated in black to hide the seams and make the visuals of these clubs more attractive.  The clubs are original except for the driver and brassie, which lack the finish coat of varnish that still remains on the spoon. 

The use of color and fancy-looking face inserts by American clubmakers blossomed during the 1930s, when many manufactures relied on cosmetics—the look of the club— more then ever to sell new golf clubs during the depression.
