The crown is simply stamped "Travis" to acknowledge Walter Travis, the man who made the center-shafted Schenectady mallet putter famous by using it to win the 1904 British Amateur.  The particular putter offered here was made by Spalding within a few years of that victory. Another feature of this wooden-head mallet putter is the sole and face are made from a single thick piece of gunmetal.

This club was collected by Fry in 1936.  It had been the personal putter of an old friend, H.A. Calohan of Seattle, WA.  Following Calohan's death in 1933, his son Harry Jr. gave it to Fry in 1936.  Fry wrote all of this down on a page in his collection notebooks.  A copy of the page will accompany this lot to its new owner.
