This Alex Patrick long nose putter is a delicate club. Patrick made the club with a smaller head and shorter shaft because it was built for a lady. When compared to circa 1880 long nose putters, its 5-inch-long head length is shorter than what is typically found, and it's 1 1/16 -inch face depth is shallower that what is typically found. The slightly reduced size of the head, which is spot on in its long-nose shape and proportions, indicates that the club was likely made for a lady. This idea is confirmed by the 33 1/2" original greenheart shaft.  A short shaft was the standard for a ladies putter, Scottish ladies being significantly shorter than Scottish men.

It should be noted that there were lady golfers in the 1800s. Not a lot, but there were a few women who took up an interest in what was then a decidedly man's game.  Hence, a ladies long nose putter is a genuine a find.

This club is in beautiful condition, the finish, shaft and sheepskin grip showing little use.  Another cool feature are the three lead buttons on the sole that date to when this club was in use.  Overall, this is a fine club with great character and history!
