In 1900, William Philpot was issued British patent No 21,363 to cover his centric-weighted putter offered here.  Philpot positioned a lead weight into the center of the sole, directly in line with the shaft and under a uniquely shaped vulcanized fiber soleplate. His invention turned out to be one of the very first clubs to have the lead centrally located on the bottom of the head under a soleplate.  This turned out to be the standard for they myriads of wood-headed drivers and fairway woods produced later in the twentieth century. The lead in the brassies produced in the 1890s and prior was visible in the back of the head.

The head shape of the Centric is also unique, the wooden head having a flat back opposite the face and a pointed toe.  The crown is stamped "Patent 21,363" inside one oval design and "Philpot, Prince's Club, Mitcham" inside another.  The sole is stamped "Centric Weighted 42" inside an oval.

The shaft, stamped "Philpot, Mitcham" and "S", is original as is the leather wrapped grip. There is a short hairline crack that runs up the back of the head from the heel corner of the fiber sole.  Overall, this club is in excellent original condition. Another fine club!
