Stamped "R.C. Clark" on the crown, this putter is from the Fred X Fry Collection and bears his inventory labels on its shaft.  According to a copy of Fry's inventory sheet which accompanies this lot, this putter was made by Bob Clark of Oakland. Clark "took out a patent, but never going it going."  The club is also stamped "Pat Pend." in small letters on the crown and twice on the brass soleplate.

This putter head is formed with a shape different from any other.  When included in a collection, one-of-a-kind clubs add great depth.  The 33" shaft is original as is the grip.

As mentioined, this club is from the Fred X. Fry collection.  Fry, the dean of American golf club collectors, was busy building his collection forty years before the Golf Collectors Society (now The Golf Heritage Society) was formed in 1970. Collecting with great passion, Fry amassed approximately 450 clubs, mostly putters. He cataloged, displayed, and cherished his treasures. A Copy of Fry's inventory page is included with this lot.  A number of national magazines ran articles about his collection of putters between 1936 and 1963.
