Stamped "Anderson Edinburgh, Patent" on the back of its head, this club was made under Robert Anderson's May 28, 1892 British patent, the first patent to cover a center-shafted iron in the history of golf. The head has a nice dark brown patina. The shaft is original.  Showing a marvelous bit of cratsmanship, the tip of the shaft visible on the sole has been cut and two small pieces of wood wedged into place, to ensure a tight fit to the shaft.

The old leather-wrapped grip is likely a replacement installed when the club was in use.  There is a small scuff to the dark brown patina on the face, but the face itself is smooth and unmarred.
