Stamped "MODEL C PAT. JUNE 8, 97" and faintly stamped with Spalding's baseball logo on the back of its head, this cleek has a wood insert inlaid in the face. The insert itself is clean and solid, with no cracks as is sometimes the case.
Designed to offer the golfer an iron that provided the feel of a wood,
this club was covered under an 1897 US Design Patent issued to James
Cran. It was the 10th US patent issued for a golf club. The sueded leather grip, hickory shaft, and wood insert are original. The club looks great! TCA2 V1 p393. Clean condition as shown in the images.
