This set consists of a driver, brassie, and spoon.

These clubs have a solid steel core that runs the full length of the shaft.  This steel core, shaped in cross section like a six-pointed star, has been grooved out to receive six lengths of bamboo that form the shaft's outer diameter. Its easy to see why these clubs are so rare.  It would have taken a great deal of work and expense to produce each shaft, far more work than a typical hickory shaft.

Showing a splash of creative marketing, the fancy face insert on each club has a multi-piece inlaid design that matches the six-pointed steel star cross-section of the shaft, which is visible on both the sole and in the butt of each shaft.

The spoon and driver are both stamped "Made in New England" on the wooden sole and "Bayliss" on the crown. The spoon and brassie are both marked with their names stamped on the brass sole plates.

The shaft of the driver and the spoon is stamped "The 'Morgan' Shaft" along with the "Patent Pending" and "MFG. Hartford, Conn" .  These clubs were covered under a 1929 British Patent issued to Robert Morgan of West Hartford, Ct.  The thought was to combine the best of both the wood shaft and steel shaft worlds into a single shaft. The club was not a success—few remain. But it does contain an amazing bit of creativity and engineering. The auctioneer had never even heard of a set of these before seeing this set.

Great condition as shown in the images.
