Included here are two putters from the Fred X Fry Collection.

1) Arthur Brown & Harry Vardon Putter. The top of the head is stamped "Arthur Brown / Harry Vardon" in an autographed style, along with  "Slazenger / New York" and also includes a star, the cleekmark of the clubmaker Wm Gibson. Harry Vardon was one of the world's first golf superstars and joined forces with Arthur Brown, a writer and amateur golfer, to design this putter. The model was registered in 1911. The bottom is stamped "Medium Lie / Regd No 693863 / Handforged in Scotland" and has a dotted pattern on the face. Original hickory shaft measures 34 1/4".

2) Spalding Gold Medal Putter. The top of the head is stamped "Spalding Gold Medal" in an oval with "Putter" and "H" stamped below it. Above it has additional stamping including "Accurate" with an arrow and "Handforged / Reg US Pat Off." There is a crosshatched scoring on the face. Original shaft measures 32 1/2".

As stated, both putters are from the Fred X. Fry collection and bear his inventory labels on the shafts. Fry, the dean of American golf club collectors, was busy building his collection forty years before the Golf Collectors Society (now The Golf Heritage Society) was formed in 1970. Collecting with great passion, Fry amassed around 450 clubs, mostly putters. He cataloged, displayed, and cherished his treasures.  A number of national magazines ran articles about his collection of putters between 1936 and 1963.
