This c. 1910 mashie niblick has a distinctly concave "dish"
face that is concave top to bottom and designed to reduce backspin.
The back is stamped "Tom Leaver / Manchester / Churlton-Cum-Hardy" inside of an oval, as well as "Warranted / Hand Forged / Special /Mashie" and an arrow cleekmark. Leaver worked at Churlton-Cum-Hardy between 1909 and 1915, when he left his professional post to take part of England's WWI war effort.
Shaft is 36 1/2" inches with an old leather wrap grip.
While there are a fair number of dish face irons in this auction, it
should be pointed out that they are all from the same consignor who made it a
point to collect such clubs. It actuality, all these different dish
face irons are genuinely rare.
