Goffix Spring Grip Soles were designed to attach to the bottom of the golfers shoes, to help prevent the golfer's feet from slipping during the swing. According to a 1909 advertisement, Goffix Soles do not use “clumsey straps to interfere with freedom of movement.”  Instead, they clip on and detach “instantly.”  These 'sole plates' were offered in either “Special Spring Manganese Bronze or Nickel Silver.”  The set offered here is made from manganese bronze.

To affix the Goffix Soles, the golfer first needed to attach two “flat U-shaped” “ends” in the bottom of each shoe, one at the toe and the other towards the heel, so that the front and the rear of these soles would slip under and thereby attach to the sole.  The “Steel Ends” envelope in the box is empty, but it once held these U-shaped ends. The small pry tool is still in the box.  These Spring Grip Soles and their box are in great shape!
