In order to see the original "Calamity Jane" putter made famous by Bobby Jones, one would have to visit the trophy case at Augusta National. To see the Grand Slam-winning "Calamity Jane II," (expertly re-created by J. Victor East for Bobby Jones due to wear and tear on the original), one would have to visit the USGA Museum in New Jersey.

For auction here, according to Spalding's 1932 catalog, is an exact duplicate of the famous 'Calamity Jane', complete with three sections of whipping on the shaft. First offered in 1932, Spalding's early wood-shafted Robert T. Jones Calamity Jane putters were made for only three years.

The grip, shaft, and clubhead are in nice condition. The original finish shows wear but has been lightly buffed so the club looks more natural and presents exceptionally well.  This is a handsome example of this iconic putter.

To read much more on the history of Jones's Calamity Jane, see TCA2 V 1 p 145-147.  For a Stainless steel version of this putter, see lot 32.
