MacGregor shows its Tommy Armour, Tourney 3852 irons in their catalogs from 1939 to 1942 (Once WWII started, MacGregor stopped making golf clubs).  No where in those catalogs do they show Byron Nelson, Tourney 3852 irons. This tells collectors today that the Nelson stamped heads were made for Nelson himself.  These 2- and 3-iron Nelson Tourney 3852MS heads are mint and were never shafted.  They stand among the rarest clubheads that MacGregor ever made.

The MS designation in "3852MS" indicates that the heads were shafted (or in this case were to be shafted) with True Temper's stiffest shafts. One would expect Nelson to use stiff shafts.

A collector would not want to shaft these today. Instead, this pair of iron heads would make a great display that hearkens back to the man who won 11 events in a row in 1945 while playing (possibly this model?) MacGregor golf clubs. The irons he used during his streak in 1945 were made by MacGregor in 1941 according to a May 21, 2009 article on Golfdigest.com. Finding old macgregor clubs heads in mint condition is practially unheard of.  Buy them now for a song before they are gone.  Will look great where ever they are displayed.

The consignor, who is not a golfer, inherited these club heads from his father who worked at MacGregor during the 1950s and 60s.
