This majestic sterling silver trophy measures approximately 19 1/2 inches tall. It’s huge! One can begin to get a sense of its size when viewing the images that include a golf ball for perspective (the ball/club is not part of this lot). The trophy is made from three parts: the top, the “cup” body of the trophy with four decorative golf clubs formed alongside, and the wood base. The top is hallmarked sterling silver as is the body of the trophy.  The hallmarks indicate that Piston Products, an obscure silversmith in Birmingham, England, made this piece in 1948.

The golfer on the top of the trophy appears to be modeled after Bobby Jones. Who would be a more fitting champion to recreate atop such a magnificent award?

As a pleasant surprise to the auctioneer, this trophy was never engraved. Therefore, it can be used for any upcoming tournament or even a perpetual event.  It stands ready to be engraved and become the envy of any who might participate in an event where this trophy was awarded.  Then again, it is so majestic and commands attention on its own, forget about the engraving, that it would look great just standing tall in any collection that includes sculptural art.

This trophy looks great just as it is!  NO question.  There are, however, two noticeable dings on it that are neither very big nor blatantly obvious.  Both dents could be repaired by a silversmith with little difficulty. The first dent is in the bottom of the silver, just above where it rests on the base.  Because the adhesive used to affix the base to the silver has let go, the trophy is easily removed from its base so the dent can be worked out from the underside before the trophy is permanently reset on its base.  The second dent is in the rim around the top piece, just above where it connects to the cup.  Because the top comes off, this small dent can also be worked out from the inside.  Specific images have been taken to show these two areas as they are not overly obvious when viewing the trophy in its entirety.

This is a great find. Such beautiful, large vintage sterling silver trophies as this are seldom seen. Even fewer that have never been engraved.
