Stamped "Special XXX Putter" on the top of its flange, this back of the blade is stamped "J.P Cochrane & Co, Edinburgh/Challenger Rustless Metal". The hosel is flat on its front side of its hosel and the shaft is also flat all the way up its frontside, as shown in the images.  Stamped "Fred X. Fry," the shaft is original as it the leather wrapped grip.  The end of the 34 1/2" shaft has a large grip cap of India rubber, to assist the golfer in holding the club.

This putter is from the Fred X. Fry collection and bear his inventory labels on the shaft. Fry, the dean of American golf club collectors, was busy building his collection forty years before the Golf Collectors Society (now The Golf Heritage Society) was formed in 1970. Collecting with great passion, Fry amassed around 450 clubs, mostly putters. He cataloged, displayed, and cherished his treasures.  A number of national magazines ran articles about his collection of putters between 1936 and 1963.
