Named after famed golfer Harry Vardon, Spalding began manufacturing this ball in 1899. In a 1901 advertisement it was celebrated as "Vardon's own ball! Manufactured in England from 'Special Gutta' and is without doubt the longest flying ball in the market today....Vardon claims for this ball a longer and truer flight."

This Vardon Flyer appears unused. Still maintaining much of its original luster, the paint has chips and crazing lines that are age, not use, related. In real life, they are there but not as prominent as they are in these magnified images. There are a few small spots of brown ? stuck on the ball. Still a great Vardon Flyer gutty ball.

This ball is front row right in the group image that accompanies this lot.
