Covered under a British Patent dated February 3, 1894, The Honourable Reginald Brougham's metalwood is designed with a wood block inserted into the face, held in place by a screw in the sole and another in the back of the head.  Brougham was looking to create a driver with the durability of metal but the feel of wood.  Hence the aluminum head and wood face.  If the face became cracked or damaged, it couid be removed and replaced with a new piece of wood.

This example has what appears to be its original wood face and two holding screws.  While the soft aluminum head has a bit of bag wear, the overall condition of this head is well above average. The 40" shaft and leather wrap grip appear original.  The hosel also uses a screw to help affix the shaft in place, and the screw looks untouched. The use of the screw was to facilitate changing the shaft in this club.
