Leather Gladstone bags were sometimes used by golfers to carry their golf shoes. Unlike a suitcase, a Gladstone bag is "deeper in proportion to its length." Gladstones are typically well made, constructed of stiff leather such as ox leather. The top of this bag is hinged, latched, and quite strong in its structure. The bag, bearing the initials WJH, is approximately 8" wide x 16" long x 9" tall.
The bags are named after Four-time British Prime-Minister William Ewart Gladstone (1809-1898).
