This McEwan play club, measuring 43 3/4 inches in length, was used very little.  The shaft is original as is the sheepskin grip and all whipping.  The club shows little to no use. There is, however, a crack in the back of the head that has been repaired with a screw sunk into the top of the head. It is likely that the crack occurred when the hot lead was poured.  Sometimes pouring molten lead into a wood head can cause the back of the head to crack. Usually such cracks don't extend very far. The fact that this screw is set so perfectly flush into the top of the head which is curved, and so seamless with the finish which is undisturbed, it appears that the repair was made before the club was sold. To be honest, the repair is a fantastic bit of craftsmanship and a wonderful piece of the clubmaking world in itself.

This McEwan play club presents exceptionally well, as all the components are original and the head has a lovely shape. The crack is repaired so well that it is not noticable unless you look for it.
