This is one of a number of gorgeous antique silver-plated antique ink wells in this auction.  The rich detail and elegance of this ink well is reminiscent of the ornate artifacts the auctioneer viewed during a summertime tour of the state rooms at Buckingham Palace.

This wonderful piece measures 8" x 11" at the widest points across the base.  The two cut crystal inkwells are removable (just pick them up out of their spots), and in perfect working condition.  Each golf ball top (same size of a real ball) hinges open and stays in place. It's really interesting to notice the dramatically bent left arm and flying right elbow—both good swing form in the 1800s.

As can be seen, this item is gorgeous.  There are the typical very light scratches on the base best seen when looking for them directly under a bright light—nothing destructive or unsightly—just the nature of such an item that dates to the late 1800s. An absolutely wonderful piece.
