The Royal and Ancient Game of Golf. Edited by Harold H. Hilton & Garden G. Smith, London: London & Countries Press, Limited Edition 1912, Number 365 of 900 copies, gilt leather, 275p, illustrated from photographs, drawings, paintings, etc. 12 ¼ X9 ¾ “, original full red pebbled calf, gilt-tooled pictorial lion emblem lettered “Far & Sure” on front cover, lettered in gilt, all edges gilt.  First (Subscriber’s) Edition.  Strip of white binding tape has been discretely added to the front hinge inside the front cover. The leather front cover of this large and exceptionally heavy book is soiled and has a slight curve that runs from the spine to the outer edge. Overall this is book is in good condition considering its age.

Containing chapters individually written by prominent writers back in the day, this magnificent book covers in great detail a wide variety of topics such as the origin and history of golf, eminent golfers, the game in America, continental golf, golf greens on sand and in dry climates, early codes of golf rules, principal courses in existence back then, a bibliography of golf literature prior to 1912, and much more.
