Both of these boxes are enclosed in plastic wrap that the auctioneer did not remove.  The Spalding box, which is marked "W. MacWilliam, St. Andrew's Golf Club" on one side, is empty.

The "MacDuff Woodies" box, in addition marked "made in Scotland" on the front and "E. Williamson, Wollaton Park Golf Club, Nottingham" on its back, has 6 tees visible at the one end missing its flap.  It is possible that this box has more of if not all 12 of its original tees, as nothing moves or rattles around.

Woodies? And who said the Scots don't have a sense of humor?  Further to this meaningless point, the auctioneer has seen two 18th-century Honorable Company of Edinburgh Golfers membership certificates that did not use the "Far & Sure" motto found on most.  In its place was the double-entendre "Stiff Shafts and Hard Balls."
