This is one of only two of these clubs the auctioneer has ever seen.  The aluminum head contains a block of wood that extends up into the head from the sole, where the wood remains visible.  Two screws on the top of the head help secure the wood in place.  As can be seen on the sole, the wood has a crack in it. Even so, it is stable and shows no signs of movement or being loose.

There is no writing on this 40 1/2" spoon. The hosel includes old whipping which extends down onto the aluminum neck. It is possible that the shaft was replaced.  It is also possible that this whipping was included when the shaft was originally installed. However, judging from the uneven lay of the whipping in one small area, as the whipping moves onto and around the top of the hosel, the auctioneer believes the odds are high that the hosel cracked along the top and suffered a tiny chip, so the whipping was installed to cover the tiny chip and stop any further deterioration.

The condition of this club is weak, as it was obviously used a lot.  However, because it is an extremely rare piece with a major design feature not seen in any other golf clubs, this spoon has considerable merit.
