Produced in 1931, Spalding's model 1200 woods were advertised as "Spalidng Custom Built Registered Woods."  Each of the clubs in this set bears the registration number "A1388" on its soleplate. "Patented Cushin-Neck, Fancy Face" is also stamped on each soleplate.

The catalog explains how the insert in each clubs is actually two pieces glued together, and the "kro" is not one of the pieces.  "A Spalding exclusive patented feature controls our method of putting the fance faces in this grade of clubs.  These fancy faces are made in two layers- the inner face is screwed firmly to the head with two large screws.  One surface of each face is then treated with a solvent which causes them to soften, after which they are clamped together, causing them to fuse into one face and making what we believe to be the only really secure fancy face."

The pyratone covered steel shafts have a 2 1/2" black collar that is color coated at its base.  The shafts and grips are all original.  The finish on each head has been meticulously restored, complete with the white stripe across the top of the head. The stamps on the top of the heads are sharp and strong. The original "Kro-insert faces" are clean. The writing on the "hour glass" solepates is strong. This is a most attractive, highly visual set seldom seen.
