Born in 1849, Tom Dunn was the son of Willie Dunn Sr. and brother of Willie Dunn Jr.  Tom learned clubmaking from his father and started his own business at North Berwick in 1870. From there his career as a clubmaker and professional was off and running.  He worked at the London Scottish Golf Club of Wimbledon in the autumn of 1870, returned to North Berwick as the custodian of the links in 1881.  He held that position until he returned to London in 1889, to work as the professional for the Tooting Bec golf club.

This is a wonderful club in the kind of condition collectors dream about.  The 39" shaft and sheepskin grip are original to this club. The finish is original and shows minimal use. The horn, lead, whipping are all original. The face has a nice heel-to-toe curve, as is typically found on better made middle and short spoons.  In short, this pristine c.1880 short spoon is a brilliant example of Tom Dunn's work.

This Tom Dunn club is third from the right in the group image.  For more on Tom Dunn, see TCA2 v1 p99.
