The two putters in this lot—the Will's Overspin brass putter and the Smith & Martin iron putter have their weight located higher up on the back of the blade as opposed to lower down, near the sole.  Both putters were designed to impart topspin to the ball when struck, so the ball would be more inclined to dive into the hole at the first opportunity—at least that was the thinking behind their designs.

The Wills Overspin putter measures 35" in length and the Smith and Martin measures 32".  Each putter has its original shaft and grip.  Nothing has been cut down or modified.  Both clubs are in clean original condition.

Both putters are from the Fred X. Fry Collection, and their shafts bear his inventory labels.  Fry, the dean of American golf club collectors, was busy building his collection forty years before the Golf Collectors Society (now The Golf Heritage Society) was formed in 1970. Collecting with great passion, Fry amassed around 450 clubs, mostly putters.
