In 1903 and 1905, James R. Brown received two British Patents that covered his Thistle rake iron.  The Thistle was made without out any marks or filigree on the face.

The shaft appears to be original. The worn sheepskin grip is original but is missing two wraps at the bottom. Overall, the grip still presents well.  Sole is stamped "Made In Scotland."  Back of the sole is stamped "Thistle / Montrose N.B."  The back of the sole was also stamped "Brown Patent" in an oval but much of the lettering has worn off as the lettering was quite small and shallow to begin with. The head is clean and has a nice, even patina.

This is a wonderful example of Brown's iconic design!
