John Wisden & Co. became a prominent London sports outfitters in London during the 1870s. The company first offered golf clubs in 1874. The circa 1880 Wisden long spoon offered here is one of the oldest remaining clubs that bears the Wisden name. It is stamped "Wisden" on the crown and "John Wisden & Co" 21 Cranbourn St, London WC" on the shaft.
This Wisden Long spoon measures 44" in length and has a nicely lofted, curved face. The shaft and sheepkin grip are original. The Clubhead measures 5 1/4" in length, 1 1/8" in face depth, and 1 7/8" in width. Overall the head is solid and in excellent condition. A very nice approximately 140-year-old club!
