The bottom of this club is weighted with three lead plugs sunk into a thick brass soleplate as shown in the images. This circa 1890s putter is marked "Thornton, Edinburgh" on the crown and "Patent Central Loaded" on the soleplate. The soleplate is exceedingly think, so the club does not need a backweight, and it is shaped so as to focus its weight more to the middle of the club.
The 35 1/2" shaft is original and the grip appears to be original, but with replacement whipping.
