This oversize blockhead mallet putter was produced by Spalding c. 1920s
or possibly before. They are easily recognizable with their 5-inch-long
brass face and brass sole. They were normally marked "Travis Putter" n
the lead in the back of the head and "A.G. Spalding & Bros" on the crown. This example is marked "A.G. Spalding & Bros" on the crown but the lead was left unstamped.
Another nice example of this putter is presented and discussed in The Clubmakers Art 2, vol 1 page 609-610. While one of these putters was also in my last auction, they are quite rare as they were never
offered in a Spalding catalog. The example offered here is in outstanding condition and has its original shaft and leather wrap grip.
This club is to the far right in the bottom row of the accompanying group picture.
