Early 1900s long head putter with a socket neck.  The crown is stamped "Auchterlonie, Special, Hand Made, L".  The Auchterlonies often advertised that all their were hand made.  The "L" indicates that this putter was made for a lady or shorter golfer.  The original 34" shaft is made from what appears to be a dark-stained ringed hickory shaft.  It is possibly, however, that the wood is something other than hickory.  The shaft is stamped "Auchterlonie, St. Andrews."  Everything on this club is in nice original condition.

David and Willie Aucthterlonie were fine clubmakers and have a rich history in the game.

Having apprenticed to Robert Forgan, David Auchterlonie & his brother Willie joined forces to create the firm of D&W Auchterlonie in 1896. Although they started out with just the two of them, it took only a few years to build up to a team of 16 workmen. They patented several clubs, made their woods by hand, and shipped many clubs to American retailers.  They did beautiful work.
