This beautiful gunmetal putter was made sometime between the end of 1892, when, according to the 1894 Golfing Annual, "Willie and one of his brothers" (David?) joined with Andrew Crosthwaite to form "Auchterlonie & Crosthwaite," and 1896, when Crosthwaite left the firm.  With Crosthwaite out of the picture, the business was renamed "D & W Auchterlonie," for David and Willie.

This wonderful gunmetal putter has its original 37" shaft and sheepskin grip. The name stamp "Auchterlonie & Crosthwaite / St. Andrews" on the back of the head is in tiny letters. "Advertising" on golf clubs in the early 1890's was not "maximized" like it would become in later years.  It was not until the early 1890s before golfer's began to embrace metal/blade putters such as this one.
