The auctioneer has never seen a set of these before, nor was he able to locate any images or ready information about these clubs with a quick search on the web. While only around 35 years old, this set is ingenious and might become even more special as time moves along.

There is a patent number of the shaft band—US Pat 4676747.  This patent, covering a golf club with an adjustable length shaft, was issued to Thomas Mazzocco and Michael Frenchik of California. The patent was filed in 1985 and issued in 1987.  The Teleshaft Company was the assignee.

There is a serial number on the shaft band, that reads "00132".  Consequently it appears that at least 132 sets of these made.

All 13 clubs—1,3,5 wood, 3-SW, and putter have True Temper shafts that collapse to a shortened length in order to fit the entire set into a travel bag that is much smaller than a golf bag.  The driver collapsed is 28" and expanded it is 43 1/2" in length. The 3 iron collapsed is 26 1/2" and expanded it measures 39".

When collapsed, all the clubs along with a nylon sunday bag that folds in half can be placed into the travel bag.  To use these clubs, the golfer pulls the shafts to length and then twists the shaft tight while holding the head with one hand. 

This set is well made and great in concept. Its pretty neat to see the shafts telescope to size and create a full length golf club in just a few seconds.  Unfortunately for the Teleshaft Company, golfers did not want to bother with telescoping shafts and collapsable clubs, that, while easy to store, were not their reqular clubs and would not play as well as their regular clubs.  Which explains why this set here shows little to no use.  They have just been tucked away in a bag for many years now. Even so, it's in the most creative failures of one generation that great collectibles for the next are formed.
