During the late 1970s and well into the 1980s vintage MacGregor Tommy
Armour woods and irons were
not only popular, they bordered on magical. The after market demand for
many such MacGregor clubs—especially Tommy Armour models—grew to levels
where good
players would often pay prices that exceeded the cost of the set when
new.
This classic c. 1950 Tommy Armour Silver Scott Tourney Rec No. 909 Double Duty 11-iron shows only light use. The cord grip, stiff shaft, and long ferrule are original to this club.
The consignor, who is not a golfer, inherited this club (and the other Classic MacGregor clubs in this auction) from his
father who worked at MacGregor for much of his life.
