Covered under Edwin McClain’s December 1928 US patent, this Hagen sand wedge has a dramatically curved face and a large, broad sole.  Bobby Jones even used one of these in the 1930 British Open.  In 1931 the USGA adopted a regulation that made any club with a concave face non-conforming.  Consequently, Hagen stopped producing its concave sand wedge.

This example has its original 17" long leather wrap grip and 35" shaft. The head has been buffed to a nice bright finish akin to the original shine on the original chrome finish. This effort blends the areas that has lost its original chrome, such as on the face and back of the head, with the original chrome that remained. The club appears to have had typical wear before it was buffed—just a bit of surface chrome loss from use and nothing else.  For more about the Hagen concave sand iron, see TCA2 Vol. 1 p. 283-284
