This attractive putter is the only one known to the auctioneer.  In The Golf Club, this very McQuaker center shaft putter was featured in a full color photograph and was described as having "a cylindrical wood head inlaid with a circular ivory face insert and a circular lead backweight. A golfer could use it right-handed, left-handed, or croquet style. In 2001 this club sold for $4500." Note that the insert appears to be ivory but could be celluloid.

The cross-hatched scoring is reminiscent of the patterns found on most gutty balls, as this club likely dates to the late 1890s or early 1900s.  this club has plug of some kind on the back of the head.  If it is filled with just a little bit of lead, which is likely, it has been covered over (see image)

Stamped "A. McQuaker" on the side of the head, this club measures 32 3/4" in length and has its original leather grip.  The only one of its kind in all original condition showing no use, this club sparkles!
