Made by the famous Robert Forgan in St. Andrews Scotland, this 1896 molded mesh gutty ball was used. There is a single small strike mark under the Forgan name on one of the poles. This ball however, was repainted back in the day, and the paint did not weather well.  It has dried out, with crazing everywhere across the entire surface of the ball, and turned a bit gray over time.  Having said that, this is a Forgan gutty ball. Such are few and far between.  It becomes easy to live with a less than perfect ball when the perfect one is nowhere to be found. Furthermore, in real life the crazing on this ball is even and blends into the background, so to speak. The now grayish color of the paint is the most noticeably thing, and considering the name on this ball (and all the various colors found on old golf balls) that ain't so bad.
