In 1993 Alastair Johnston, along with the help of his father James, published The Chronicles of Golf 1457 to 1857.  Nine hundred copies were printed and each copy was numbered and signed by both father and son.  This 736 page book looks at all the written references to golf between 1457 and 1857 that were known prior to 1993—which is the vast bulk. Reading this book is critical to understanding the evolution of the game and its many facets.  The information in the book is presented chronologically and moves through the years in a linear fashion. 

This book has proven to be without equal and a cornerstone to any golf library.  It's a "must have" if you collect books or love the history of the game.  The pristine copy offered here in its original dust jacket and slip case is hand numbered "328" and is beautifully signed by both Alastair and James Johnston.
