Covered under a 1940 Canadian patent issued to William Wettlaufer, this steel shaft driver has both a head and grip that are quite unusual. The removable plate on top of the head allows the golfer to access two cavities inside the head and add or remove weight. By adding or subtracting washers, the golfer could even shift the weight slightly more or less towards the heel or toe.

Should the golfer crack the wood face, he or she could open the head and remove the two nuts behind the heel and toe.  This would release the damaged wood and allow for a new piece of wood to be installed.  The streamlined shape and small sole on the underside of the head are also nice design features.

The grip appears to be molded rubber of some sort.  It has a raised ridge that spirals down the entire length of the grip.  While the thought behind the spiraling ridge was to assist the golfer in gripping the club, the auctioneer believes quite the opposite occurred, which helps in part to explain the extreme rarity of this club.
