This Park molded mesh gutty ball was made by Willie Park Jr in 1898 in Edinburgh, Scotland. Golf magazine
described it as "fine and clearly nicked, of a unique mold, and well
painted....It is in all respects a splendid ball..." The June 24, 1898 issue of Golf
reported that this was the ball used by Willie Park Jr in the 1898 Open
as well as in a big money match with fellow Open Champion, Willie
Fernie. The Park gutty ball offered here was clearly not the one in
play, as this one is unused and just a few tiny paint chips away from being in perfect mint condition. The original paint still has its original luster.
This ball is middle row, center in the accompanying group image.
