The Ping 1A putter is the model that started it all for the Karsten
Solheim and the PING golf company. When this putter strikes a ball, an
unmistakable "Piiinnnngggg" rings out and everybody on
the course knows somebody is using a Ping 1A! While this putter
works great, the sound it makes gave birth to the name of the
company—and the rest is history. Today, the club remains iconic.
Offered here is a Ping 1A putter made in Karsten's garage near
Scottsdale, Arizona, in the early 1960s. The club has its original
black Golf Pride Informer grip complete with a remnant of the shaft band. The original shaft is 35 1/4" long. The actual patent number that covered this club is stamped on the sole along with the weight stamp of "15."
The shaft has a gooseneck bend near the head. This double bend was hand-crafted by Karsten after the club was shafted.
