The head on this c1880 track iron was forged by Anderson of Anstruther, with portions of his
tiny circle-shaped cleekmark still faintly visible under a bright light. The head appears to be reshafted, but with a good choice--a 39 3/4" R. Forgan & Sons St. Andrews shaft (as indicated by its shaft stamp) with original sheepskin grip.
This club could easily date prior to 1880, as it is quite heavy and stout, with strong nicking. Plus Anderson was not known for making silver-dollar-size track iron heads. He obviously understood how the game was played, and was a bit more practical in his clubmaking.
