The head and shaft of this driver are made from a single, solid piece of wood. The shaft (although it technically goes all the way to the toe of the club) measures 42" and has its original leather-wrapped grip. The head features an original leather face insert. There is a small chip next to the top of the insert, but it is a small blemish in what is a solid example of a most ingenious club.

The BGI catalog of 1900 offered "Dunn's single piece drivers and brassies" (Dunn was the patent holder) and explained how the wood was compressed at the neck in order to achieve the angle between the head and shaft, so the grain runs continuous from the tip of the toe to the top of the grip.  The catalog also noted that this single piece driver was the longest driving club in the world because "the spring is about four inches nearer to point of impact and is not deadened by string, as in ordinary spliced clubs."   No cracks or damage to the shaft.

Originally, these cost $3.50, which was $1 more than the next expensive clubs (BGI fork splice and socket neck) and $1.50 more than the BGI splice neck Driver. Their high retail price explains in part the rarity of these clubs.
