Andrew Herd Scott was both a fine golfer and clubmaker! His Unbreakable Neck driver like the one offered here was patented in 1895, with Scott describing the unique joint as such: "The shaft, which tapers towards one end, is formed square of rectangular in cross section at that part and enters a correspondingly shaped recess in the neck and head of the club, the said shaft passing right through same to the sole...By this means a joint is made that is practically unbreakable, while it also gives more spring to the head and consequently greater power to the stroke, thereby enabling a ball to be driven further than with an ordinary club..."

The original 40 11/16" shaft has been re-gripped. Part of the John Wisdon's name stamped on the shaft has been covered. (John Wisdon was a sporting goods retailer based out of London.)  The neck is currently completely exposed so the joint is on full display.  New old-style whipping could be installed if desired, but it is not necessary.  Being able to see the full joint is a good thing in itself. An old collection inventory label remains on the shaft.

As a brief aside, this driver head, while not particularly unusual for its day, is so small by today’s standards that it will now surprise most golfer’s in it size alone.
