This bronze statue provides a wonderful likeness of British Open and 8-time British Amateur champ John Ball.  This bronze is attached to a black marble base where the name of the sculpture "G Reece '09" is cast in place. Completed in 1909, the figure stands 7" tall from the tip of the club to the bottom of its 6 1/8" wide base.

john Ball was a life-long amateur, and his record is incredible.  "After winning The Amateur Championship in 1888, Ball became the first English-born player to win The Open Championship in 1890 and in the same year won his second Amateur, the first to win both titles in the same year. Ball subsequently won the 1892, 1894, 1899, 1907, 1910, and 1912 Amateurs, a record eight titles in all, in addition to two runner-up finishes. Ball also won four Irish Amateur titles. He retired with a 99–22 record (81.8%) at The Amateur Championship. Ball was also runner-up in the 1892 Open Championship, finishing three strokes behind Harold Hilton." Wikipedia.

The golf ball shown is not part of the lot, but is shown to provide scale.
