Located on Princess Street in Edinburgh, Robert Anderson and Sons was primarily a "Fishing-tackle Manufacturer and General Sports Warehouse" as advertised in the back of Charles Chamber's 1887 book, Golfing.  Their entry into the golf market was that of a retailer, where they ordered clubs that would be marked and then sold under their name. During the 1890s Anderson & Sons became more involved in the golf market, including patenting and producing clubs of their own design. 

This late 1880s 44" long spoon is an exceptionally early Anderson-marked club.  It has an attractive head shape, with a slightly lofted and hooked face.  The head measures 5 1/4" in length, 2" in width, and 1 1/8" in face depth.  There are three small worm holes at the base of the neck.  The original blond finish and the entire club complete with its original sheepskin grip is in beautiful all-original condition.
