Offered here is little used 1-SW set of Ping Eye 2 Beryllium Copper Irons made for the 1987 US Open at the Olympic Club in San Francisco.  Each of the 11 irons has "The Olympic Club 1987 US Open" logo marked on the tip of the toe. These clubs were most likely sold at the Olympic club in conjunction with the 87 US Open.  The shafts and grips are original.

Complete with square grooves, these irons were made when Ping was smack in the middle of the square groove controversy that pitted the USGA and the PGA Tour against the Eye 2 irons. Karsten stood up for his clubs, his customers, and his integrity, recognizing the arbitrary nature of how his irons was being targeted for extinction.  This was an intense period in the history of the game and its governing bodies and it is recounted in great detail across 72 pages in chapters 9 and 10 of And The Putter Went Ping
