Measuring 40" in length, this Alex Patrick middle spoon has been reshafted with a shaft stamped "R. Forgan & Son, St. Andrews. Much of the original grip has worn away, but the underlisting is still present and accounted for.  The top of the beech head has lost much of its varnish, but fortunately there is no moisture damage and the golden color of the head remains.

The name stamp on the head is clear and strong. The face is smooth, likely having been lightly cleaned up at some point in its existence. Upon close examination and with the light just right, a razor-thin hairline grain separation, as is sometimes found in the faces of old long nose clubs, can be seen.

With a 1 3/16" face depth and 5 1/2" length, this head has a great shape, with a nicely hooked face. It's attractive blond head presents well and does not appear to show much actual use.

Alex Patrick grew up in Leven, Scotland where he was not only a talented amateur golfer, but also an apprentice in his family's clubmaking business. Upon his father's death in 1866, Alex took over the business and built a reputation as a fine club and ballmaker.
