The Cushin putter was designed to work exactly as it sounds. The
"floating face" of the putter head suspended between the toe and sole
(and separated by a thin slot) provided a cushioning effect between
putter and ball.
This Cushin putter bears a patent number in the cavity on the back of
the head,
along with the manufacturing address of Ping Golf Clubs in Scottsdale,
AZ—the address for Karsten's garage operation and headquarters! The
sight line on the top of the head is original to the club, as is
Karsten's unique two-way bend at the base of the grip, which, when
compared to the central
length of the shaft below the grip, bends both away from the target and
away from the ball. The neck has a distinctly different two-way "gooseneck" bend made by Karsten in his garage.
The 35" shaft still includes its "Tuned Ballnamic" shaft band in perfect condition as
well as its original Golf Pride Informer grip and grip collar.
jack Nicklaus used a Scottsdale Cushin with a double bend grip, which
this club has, when he won 4 championships including the Crosby just
prior to the USGA's 1967 rule against using shafts with bends.
In its original dark patina, this entirely original club is a beauty!
