This aluminum mallet putter with drill through hosel is stamped "The New Mills Ray Model Medium Lie" on the sole along with registration and patent numbers on both the sole and crown. It features the acorn cleek mark that was printed on many Mills clubs shipped from Britain to the US (very common on Mills aluminum putters) from 1915-1930.
This club also includes a metal cup "ball retriever" built into the end of the grip. The underside of this metal cup is stamped "Retriever, Pat Applied for along with another word the auctioneer cannot make out. With the retriever attached to the end of the grip, all the golfer needed to do was to turn the club upside down, holding on to the head, and then place the cup over the pall and push down. That would engage the ball and the golfer could pick it up without havinig to bend over.
